Capital Project Management

The Capital Project Management group manages the design and construction of projects over $100,000 in and on FAS property. Projects range in complexity and volume and include new building construction, renovations, life safety upgrades, and ongoing maintenance. We manage work in FAS laboratories, classrooms, libraries, residences, museums, athletic facilities, and offices. As Capital Project Managers we collaborate with OPRP colleagues, design and construction teams, our projects' end-users, building operations, building occupants, neighborhoods, and the cities of Cambridge and Boston.

Our responsibilities on capital projects include:

  • Oversee design, construction, and final occupancy move activities
  • Develop cost estimates for pre-construction feasibility studies
  • Select construction managers
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with architects, contractors and vendors
  • Establish, manage, and report on project budgets and schedules while adhering to annual capital planning goals
  • Comply with Harvard standards for greenhouse gas reduction, LEED certification, and construction safety
  • Communicate with internal Harvard stakeholders including Campus Design, University Planning, Engineering & Utilities, Environmental Health & Safety, Office for Sustainability, Mitigation, and Central & FAS Finance
  • Build and maintain relationships with end-users including faculty, staff, and University administration
